WhatsApp is introducing a new tool to create custom stickers on iOS 17 or later. Previously, you could create these elements by dragging and dropping images from the gallery into the app, but this new feature allows you to draw on them, add text, or apply other stickers.
To create one from an existing image, open the sticker bar, select “Create Sticker” and then choose an image from our gallery. From there we can customize it by choosing a cutout, adding text, and drawing on it. You can also edit any version you’ve previously created by opening the toolbar, holding down the sticker you want to edit, and then selecting “Edit Sticker”.
WhatsApp for web already had a similar tool, but having the ability to customize them directly in the mobile app is much more practical. The only drawback is that you can only edit (not create) stickers if your device has a version of the operating system prior to iOS 17. Meanwhile, Android users can only view and react to custom stickers for now, otherwise they have the option to create AI-generated stickers.
Speaking of WhatsApp, there are quite recent news for the web client as well. WhatsApp is working on improvements to the user interface and dark theme, a change that should improve the viewing experience and reduce eye strain in low-light environments
